I have winxp pro, 800 mhz, 384 ram, 40 gig. I have a wpi 4424 4x cd burner and someone gave me a hp 9300 10x, but there's no disc. Can I just install cd burner? Will xp recognize the new one without an installation cd?

JAK, Should be no problem for Win XP to recognize it. Of course the jumper settings should be set properly before installation and then after Windows finds it the firmware should/could be updated. Lastly a decent Software program installed if one is not already available.

I have Nero 6.6. Also have a dvd player. What should the jumper settings be? How do you update the firmware? Thanks for your help.
