We are cuurently using Windows XP, 1.5ghz P4, 512k ram(i think?).
An error message continually comes up when we are using IE6, or MSN Explorer saying

"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close ". etc. etc."

We thought that this was the only problem, and then the PC suddenly restarts out of the blue. This continuous crashing is getting on my nerves..

Could this problem be related to the Power Supply or the CPU? We wiped our HD and reinstalled windows XP from nothing, thinking it would fix the problem but it didn't..

Before we did all this we did have an error message saying there was a hardware error or something, as well as something wrong with the CPU.

    Can somebody help us?

    Welcome!

    Several possibilities, but first questions:
    What brand computer have you?
What exactly does "We wiped our HD and reinstalled windows XP " mean?

First thing to do is Start > right-click My Computer > select properties > advanced tab > settings (third one down under Startup and Recovery) > Under System Failure uncheck Automatically Restart and OK apply (if highlited) and OK to get out.

Then you should get a 'stop' error report instead of a reboot. Write down the address that starts with an x (which means it's hexadecimal) and post it here.

For some reason our PC seems to be working fine today. (so far). By 'wiped' I meant I reformatted my Hard Disk and reinstalled Windows XP. I also tried the tip you gave us, but I'm not sure if it has fixed the problem. No address of any kind came up. Anyways, i'll keep you posted if things start happening again. OK. Thanks for your support, mate.

Tip is just to get a BSOD with an address (actually an error number) that can help identify what caused the crash. You won't see anything unless the computer crashes.

    Aha-!

    Back again!
Yesterday we turned off the computer by holding down the power button until it turned off . I turned on the PC this morning, and a blue screen came up there was an error message with a long number of some kind.

    0x00000019(0x00000020,0xE28B0010,0xE28B0010,0x0c00991B)

We restarted the PC, and when we were using Internet Explorer, an error message came up again saying "slrundll.exe has encountered a problem..... "

Yesterday we also had an error message saying "DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem...... "

    Any ideas?

If you are getting dump files when this happens, they may contain useful information.

    Look for C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\

and see if you have recent files Mininnnnnnn.dmp where nnnnnnn can be any string of numbers. If so, please email me the latest two or three. They should be right at 64kb each.

Please include the URL for this thread so I don't get confused about why you are sending them.

Note that a full dump might contain more information but is way too large to send so hopefully you do have Dr. Watson minidump files.
