I am attempting a clean install of XP Pro, which was not previously installed on the cpu. I deleted the former partitions(I didnt care about what i had on them and felt a clean install would be better) and then put in my XP Pro disk and let it boot from the cd-rom. After this i created a new partition NTFS format, and when this was all done it would reboot my CPU in order to continue install process, when my CPU would reboot i would get the normal Windows xp loading screen than i would get a XP setup screen which would say setup is restarting, this screen would disappear and all i would be left with is a teal screen with a mouse pointer which i could control. I have tried re-installing and deletin the partition and doing another clean install but nothing has worked. Not sure what the deal is, any help would be great. The operating system on the cpu before the format was XP Home. If you can help please do. Thanks

Try cleaning the CD in some luke warm water with a few drops of detergent in it. If that doesn't help, I would check your RAM. You can run either of these tools from a floppy:

    Memtest86

    Windows Memory Diagnostic

I'm having the same problem with installation after removing Fedora Core 3. Worst part is that I can't even get into recovery console because it says that there's a password that's been entered. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is asking for the administrator password. Try just pressing ENTER (in case no password was set up and the original blank is still the proper one).

If that fails and you don't know the administrator password, we can't help except to suggest you format and reinstall the OS. As noted in Forum Posting Rule #6

Thanks for replying so quickly, Newt. Tried a blank password but that didn't work. I just read a couple articles that say xp setup uses temporary passwords and changes them later on in the install procedure.

Turns out that the problem here was actually a bad BIOS flash. Amazing what one missing letter can do to your mainboard, eh? Here's a good tip - make sure that you're getting enough sleep before wokring with computers.
