SC Manager A Error

I am trying to install itunes and ipod setup software on my Dell Latitude DC600 which is currently running XP with SP2. The installation software goes through practically all the setup steps but at the very end an error pops up:

Open SC Manager A Error
Error connectiong to Service manager
Error Number = 0


After clicking OK the follow up message says this:

SEVERE
Failed to install GEARa.spi WDM Service

Any ideas?

As an aside, I have installed the same software on several other identical laptops with no problems.

 

Hard to be sure from those messages.

Event Viewer should have more details. start=>run=>eventvwr.msc and when you locate an error or warning that relates, double-click it open, click on the icon below the up/down arrows to send a text copy to your clipboard and paste the results here.
