My "D" key on my lap top actuates every minute or so. Annoying but not worth sending back to the factory. Can I but a time delay on just this Key using windows XP???

    Actuate:

1.To put into motion or action; activate: electrical relays that actuate the elevator's movements.

    2. To move to action: a speech that actuated dissent.

So in other words you're computer types a "D" with or without any help from you?

What you said is correct. In other words, my "D" key types without me hitting a key. It types by itself.

First thing I would do is to take a brush or even a toothpick and run it around the key to make sure something isn't stuck there that is causing contact. Be VERY carefull doing this or you could damage the keyboard.

If there may have been something sticky spilt onto the keyboard, I think I would spray it with Contact Cleaner, but hold it upside-down so that the liquid runs back out (wait till all the Contact Cleaner has dried and dissapated before restarting it and don't let any get on the screen).

It does sound like a physical problem, but you could check "Filter Keys" in the Help menu. I have not used it. There may also be a setting for "Typematic Rate" in the BIOS/CMOS settings (this will effect all keys).

I have been trying to avoid messing with the keys. The problem has been getting better. I think I will gently manipulate the key tonight. I think it will be OK if I'm careful. Thanks for the advice....
