I'm purchasing a DVD player recorder and I was wondering if they are similar to CDRW and CDR as in you can't play a CDRW in your CD player. Is it the same with a DVDRW? Can you only play them on your computer like a CDRW?

There are two kinds of DVD RW disks. DVD-RW and DVD+RW. You will have to see what your DVD deck will play. Go to http://www.videohelp.com/ and look up your DVD player. If it is in their data base it will tell you what types of disks and file types your player plays.

I realize that there are two kinds, I was wondering if the rw would play on other dvd players or just r's. Whether they are + or - is another thing. I would hate to record on a DVDRW and send it to someone and it woudn't play because of being a RW. For example, a CDRW won't play on a cd player. At least one recorded on a computer. I'm not sure about a stand alone cd recorder.

Just wanted to add the first DVD recorder I used only would burn to a DVD+RW disk. I have sent some to friends and family and they have played on their DVD players.

That's good to know. The one I purchased will burn to all types DVD+RW,DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD-R and CD-RW, -R, CD+RW and CD+R. It has a 160 gig hard drive as well. I can PM you with the brand if you're interested.
