I should be able to send a message to any machine I am connected to thru console message. I am on a network and the only machine that I can send a message to is the server? Does anyone have a suggestion?

Can you please provide a little more detail on how you are attempting to send these messages and your network setup?

In Computer Management if you right click Computer Management (Local) and then select Send Consol Message... You should be able to send a message to any machine you're connected to. We are on a LAN and I am trying to send messages to other machines on our LAN but they are not recieving. The only machine to receive the messages is the server.

Make sure the Messenger Service is started on the target machines.

When you say start message service, most of the machines I am trying to send a message to are not 2000 or NT. Is there a message service on ME/98/XP?

I think thats your problem Sandy. I don't think you can send messages to non-NT/2K machines. 'Net send' doesn't work on 9x machines. I assume what you are doing is similar.

    Bingo, there's your problem

Windows 9x/ME does not have the Messenger Service, or any "services" at all. The only way you can send messages to the 9x/ME machines is to have WinPopup running on those PC's in order for messages to be received. I believe the executable can be found in the Windows directory. If it is not installed you can install it from the Windows Setup tab in Add/Remove Programs.

Windows NT/2000/XP all have the Messenger Service which must be running for "net send " messages to work.
