I would like to create a shortcut to this file (files?) on my desktop. Is this part of the MS Office suite only or part of the OS? Does anyone know where the file is located and what its name is? I did a search on the obvious and came up with nothing. Thanks. -Bob

    Bob,

In Windows 98SE, the Character Map is here:
Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools

Right click on "Character Map "
    Select: Create Shortcut

Next: Drag the shortcut to your Desktop

As you run W2K, perhaps someone else will jump in and give you the location for that OS, if what I posted doesn't help.

Ramona - FYI, \system32\charmap.exe is the file and it's in the same location for 95-2003 operating systems.

How do I create a shortcut to it in Windows ME? (Wrong forum for a Win ME question, I know, but the thread relates...)
    Thanks!

    Rebecca,

Do it the same way I suggested to BBPanel, or do a "Find" for charmap.exe, right click the file and select: Create shortcut. Once the shortcut is created, then drag it to the Desktop.

I did note that the charmap.exe file for Windows 98SE is located in C:\WINDOWS.

Ramona - thanks for the file location correction. I don't have a 9X system to play with these days and while I coulda sworn all the OS versions had it in the same place, I guess I just remembered wrong.

    Newt,

Hey, no such thing as perfect my friend. What! You mean you don't have every single OS! Wow, I just don't see how you can get along then.... :D
