    Morism,

I will presume the slave drive is already formatted.

You can install Win98 on the Slave drive and applications also as long as you do NOT try it from WinXP. Go into the CMOS/BIOS setup and change the boot sequence to A and then D as the first and 2nd boot devices. Put a boot floppy into the A drive boot the PC and then after you bootup with CD ROM support. Run the setup off the CD and install it on the C drive (the D drive will be the C drive since you booted off it but you should confirm that this is correct by doing a DIR C: to see if this is a correct assumption). Once you verify that the C drive is the correct drive that you are going to give to your dad, then proceed with the setup.

Yes Morism, Could install Windows onto a HD from his computer, But will it work when it is put in his Dads machine ?

Right off the bat we have a whole different Motherboard. Then a different Video just for a couple of things.

More problems yet may exist if he installs straight from the main CD. Windows may install stuff that may not even be on Dads' machine. Or miss stuff that maybe on Dads' TROUBLE AHEAD

If he installed from the Win98 folder on the CD not as many problems. I myself would copy the files from the Win98 folder to an OPTIONS folder on Dads' HD ( preferabley on a Partiton other than C: ) and run setup from there. This also works better for future repair installs if needed. And also if Windows should need some files it can ( usually ) go get them without have to find the CD.

He could get the basic windows installed and some other software if he wished to.

Then he could just take the HD, the Activation number, A boot floppy to Dad.

Set the HD up but DO NOT let the machine boot to it. Boot to the Floppy and run setup from the Options folder.

I know for sure this way works because the HD that I have this SP Pro on is on it 3RD machine and has not been formated since the first time for 95B ( ORS2 ) But I DO NOT ALLOW the new machine to boot to the HD the FIRST time as I wrote above.

On Dad's old comp, take out the old drive and replace with the new drive. Then install 98 using a 98 boot floppy & the 98 cd. When finished, take his old drive, and hook it up to the old comp using the cdrom connection cables, be sure to set the drive's jumper to match the jumper on the cdrom. Then boot to 98.

You can go to device manager and update hardware drivers by pointing to the old drive when prompted. You can then copy all needed files and docs to the new drive, as well as any saved installation programs.

When done w/ drivers & copying files, shut down and put back the cdrom.
