Ad-aware & Spybot hang my pc?

Hi,

I have tried several uninstalls/reinstalls/manual uninstalls of both Spybot & Ad-aware SE but I cant get either to run on my PC?

Ad-aware just doesnt open and hangs my PC with a 'not responding' message, 'end now' doesnt do anything so a reboot has to be done, if I try to uninstall it I get a 'could not open INSTALL.LOG file' error message (I can only delete this manually).

Spybot opens but then hangs a third of the way through - this however does uninstall!

XP is fully updated and both Ad-aware & Spybot allow updates on initial install.

Any ideas?

All else fine!

AOL tell me this may be a problem with their own Spyware utility which I just discovered would not run either - so i've reinstalled that and will try Ad-aware & spybot YET again.

I'll report back over the weekend!
