When I turn on the computer and sign on it goes into the shut down process automatically. a dos screen appears and says something like "documents and settings..... shutting down." What could be the problem. I've made it work by closing the window before it fully loads.

    Hi Lib,

It sounds like you imght have a virus or something like that.

    1. Once you are in Windows, click Start, Run and then type in MSCONFIG.
    2. Click on the right tab (Startup).
    3. See if you can find the process that is cuasing it as the PC is starting up. Unchecking the box will stop windoze from loading it. If the process comes back, then you surely have a virus.

Go to http://www.trendmicro.com and use their free virus scanner to scan for viruses. If you can not do an online scan, then you surely have a virus.

Go to http://www.grisoft.com and get their free reisdent AV program called AVG.
