    Hey guys,

A few days ago I've had a power-brake, turned the computer & monitor on,
and my monitor (Mag 786FD, one of the finest... :p ) went all
whhhhhheeeeeee like crazy, looked like degaussing, changing it's settings
(contrast, Hsize, Hpos, Trapezoid, Rotate etc...) to strange and non-logical values, and I can't work it out,
the picture is not a straight square as it was used to be.

My question is, how can i revert its setting to the default or factory settings?
I've tried the reset option in the OSD, and it doesn't do S**T!
Wiped out all user modes, tried to set ALL options on zero and after that on 50%, doesn't work as well...

    Can somebody advise??

    Thanks.

What your saying sounds a lot like the monitor is receiving a signal it can't handle.

You may have set a screen resolution the monitor can't handle by mistake.

Have you tried booting in safe mode? If not, do so. If you get a clear picture it may very well be an unsupported resolution. If you get a good screen but colors are messed up don't worry. You only have 16 colors in safe mode.

If safe mode is also messed up it's possible that either the monitor or your video card have taken a nose dive. If possible, hook up another monitor and see what happens. If the different monitor is fine look to the monitor. If the different monitor is also messed up look to the video card. This is not a for sure test but if you have the extra monitor to hook up is a good place to start.

    Let me know the results.

I would try the monitor on another computer. If there is any sign of "bendy screen" (my pet name for strange screens :)) , look at returning it under warranty.

I hope that it may be drivers, as said, try Safe Mode.

Sorry guys, I've been away for a week...

Ran a search for MAG 786FD features or manual or anything else that might
help me turn the monitor settings back to the usual state and found none.

Is there any possibility to reset the settings to the default or factory settings by doing a combination of actions???

    I havn't mentioned i'm using XP Pro SP2 with 1024 X 768.

Safe mode has EXACTLY the same problem. The monitor display stays the same, only with
lower BPP... (somehow my XP's safe mode is also 1024 X 768)

Tried to hook it up to a different computer, stays the same...

The screen corners are rounded and not straight as they were used to be before.

I'm still looking for a way to reset the settings to the default mode.

Can't seem to find ANY online owner's manuals and the monitor warrenty
has expired two years ago. (monitor is 5 y.o.)

    P.S.

where can I post questions about my non-working IIS5?

So much for no manuals. Sorry to learn of your misfortune. You might get lucky and find is just a fuse in the monitor but from the description, it sounds more like its time for the repair shop or a shopping trip. Unfortunately, because of its age and the cost of repair, shopping may be the best of two necessary evils.

    ;)

    Thanks Rockster2U,

This URL you gave here was one of the places i've been trying to find
    manuals, no luck yet... :(

Don't get me wrong, the monitor is up & running, colors & resolution are fine,
all but the 'bendy' :p picture is ok.

All i'm trying to find is a way to reset the screen settings (such as hight, width, pincushion tc.) to the factory default settings.

    Thanks again...

Taking a look see for the manual but here is a start...

I found and put up in the background on my site what should be the drivers for your monitor. You might try re-installing them.

Didn't find a manual doing a quick search but let me get this straight...

The screen is distorted but works and is readable? If the sides of the screen do like ) ( or ( ) that should just be a matter of adjusting the pincushion until the sides are straight. If you can't do this I would guess it's something in the high voltage cage. Take it to a repair shop or replace.

I don't know a setting to restore factory defaults but if you can't use the adjustments to make a square screen (pincushion and trapezoid) I would say that there is a definate problem. Especially since I believe you said that you tried it on another system.

    LLDJ, trust us! :)

It may look like it can be corrected, but if the on-screen controls will not make a difference then there is a fault in the monitor hardware. There are no other "user" adjustments you can make.

Repair or new monitor time (or get spectacles that make it look right  )
