Cannot find server

I have recently acquired a new computer running Windows-XP. For the first week or so it worked fine. Now, I cannot bring up the MSN home page - regardless of what valid MSN address I type in the address bar it displays the 'this page cannot be found' screen and 'Cannot find server' in the task bar to the right of the 'Start' button.
I'm on the internet, I can bring-up Google and all other web sites but not MSN. I bring-up Google, do a search for 'MSN', click on the 'Welcome to MSN.com or MSN Hotmail title lines - same result. I can receive and send e-mail via O/E. I just don't know what gives.
Anybody have any suggestions ???
