    Hi,
whenever I'm online web pages such as netvenda.com and advnto1.com keep popping up. I don't know where they have come from but from reading the forums I assume I have some spyware?
Haven't a clue what to do and all these hijack logs look pretty complicated! But if thats what it takes I'll have a go.
I've got Norton security and windows xp firewall. Be grateful for any help bearing in mind I'm a bit of a beginner.
    Cheers, Lorna.

    Hi Lorna :)

Please download and install both Spybot 1.3 and Ad-aware SE Personal 1.05 (both free) from the links in my signature. Allow Spybot to load SDHelper upon installation. Immediately check for updates to both programs. Run Spybot and fix everything it finds and prechecks (items in red). Run Ad-aware in the full scan mode, right click within the scan results and select all, then click next and allow removal. Reboot and do an online virus scan with RAV. If any files are infected, copy the results and post it here.

Then, download HijackThis.exe from here. Save it to a permanent folder (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT). Open and click scan, then save log. Once it is saved it will open in notepad. Select all from the edit button, copy and paste the results here.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for helping. I'm in the middle of carrying out all your instructions but its taking a while. I don't have broadband where I live yet so everything is a bit slow. I've got as far as doing the RAV scan and I'll carry on tomorrow evening. From what I can see so far I seem to have a number of infections which I thought my Norton virus scan would have picked up.
Anyway I should be posting the results tomorrow.
    Lorna. :)

Open C: and right click a blank space. Choose new>folder. Name it HJT. Now right click>cut HijackThis.exe and right click>paste on the new folder.

Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entries. Close ALL other windows and click fix.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Pkdfhz] C:\Program Files\Nqade\Pvul.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nTETT7bc7] C:\WINDOWS\khxkek.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IST Service] C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: KODAK Software Updater.lnk = C:\Program Files\Kodak\KODAK Software Updater\7288971\Program\backWeb-7288971.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: Logitech Desktop Messenger.lnk = C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\LDMConf.exe

Right click My Computer and choose properties. On system restore tab, check the box to turn off. OK out.

Either reboot and repeatedly tap F8 to enable the start menu and select safe mode, or go to start>run and type msconfig, hit enter. On the boot.ini tab, check the box next to /safeboot and click OK. Click yes to restart. This will restart your computer in safe mode. Logon to your user account.

Now in safe mode, you will need to show hidden files and folders, as well as system files and extensions for known file types.

Open C:\WINDOWS and delete the file khxkek.exe.
Open C:\Program Files and delete the folders Nqade and ISTsvc.
Open C:\Temp if present, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete.
Open C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\temp, select all and delete. Do this for all username folders.
Open the control panel, then internet options and delete the temporary internet files, checking the box for offline content.
Open My Computer, right click Local disk C: and choose properties, then disk cleanup. Check all boxes except compress old files and click OK.

If you used msconfig, uncheck the /safeboot box and click ok to reboot. Upon reboot you will be greeted with a message window from the System Configuration Utility. Check the box not to use and don't show, then click OK. If you used F8, just reboot back into Windows.

Run another HijackThis scan and post the log.

Looks good. Everything working OK now?

You could fix these two entries also.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LDM] C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BackWeb-8876480.exe

    After a reboot (whenever), open C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB and rename realsched.exe to realsched.old.

    Re-enable System Restore.

Also recommend you open Spybot and click mode on the toolbar, then advanced mode. Click immunize in the left pane, then immunize again, this time from above with the green + beside it (always recheck this setting after downloading updates). Click the link below that for SpywareBlaster, download, install, enable all protection and update. Check for updates regularly and watch for any protection being disabled. Then, still in Spybot, click the tools button, then IE tweaks and at least lock the HOSTS file.
Then download IESpyad.exe, double click to extract (it extracts to C:\IESpyad by default), open the folder, double click the ie-ads.reg file and allow it to merge into the registry.

That will give you some added layers of protection against unwanted parasites.

    Billy Bob,

    Thanks :)

That's it, I've done the lot! All seems ok so far - no unwanted pages as of yet.
Many , many thanks for all your help - I'm amazed by how you know all this stuff.
I may now visit my dad armed with all your instructions as his pc is in a worse state than mine!
    Thanks again Dave.
    Lorna. :)
