I have a Compaq MV540 along with my compaq presario, and I've been messing with the On-Screen Display Functions. Now the screen looks kinda crooked, and I haven't been able to fix it. I still have the monitor's manual, and there is and OSD function to "restore monitor to factory default values." I select this function and nothing happens. I bought my computer with Windows ME, but I did a clean install with Windows XP Home. Does this option need a driver that was wiped out during the installation, or why isn't it working? I hope there is someone out there that can help.

    thanks for your time,
    Fernando Rios

    Hi.

At the page for the Windows XP download you are able to click on the name/description which leads you to information and instructions about the driver files.

Only maybe. If the machine originally used "restore" disks for the operating system, you may find that specific drivers are needed and the only way to get them is to buy a Win XP restore disk from Compaq. I suggest you look up the information about changing/upgrading the operating system at the Compaq Support website.

It may possibly be a hardware problem with the screen itself. You could try running it on another PC. The test though, may be to run it on the original Win ME system (from the restore disks?). It may possibly be lacking specialized motherboard/chipset drivers that can affect the graphics.
