Hi: I am having difficulty defragmenting my computer which is running Windows 98. I have read articles saying firewall software and antivirus software have to be disconnected for no better word to use. My question is how do how find out what programs, running in windows 98, are causing the defragmentation to recycle at 0 to 1% completion. Dennis.

    defrag

Dennis,I just defragged perfectly today for the first time in over a year.Asked around and got lots of replies but found the answer from a newspaper article.then went to www.helpwithwindows.com and followed the check list.Clicked on START>RUN and typed in msconfig in the open box.Go to GENERAL tab and uncheck everything under SELECTIVE STARTUP (MAKE SURE ITS THIS NAME) hit APPLY then OK and restart your computer. I used the maintenance wizard .When the 3 items were completed (took about 1 hour) go to the same msconfig box select NORMAL START and restart your computer once again. This worked for me,hope it helps you!!!
