I have a Win95 machine and a WinXP (Home) machine networked via EtherNet crossover cable.

When I use Eudora on the Win95 I want to use the mailboxes on the XP.

So I have this string in the Win95 Eudora shortcut:

    "C:\Program Files\Eudora\Eudora.exe" "e:\my-stuff.d\eudora "

I have file sharing enabled. I have e: mapped on the network. I have made sure the files are not read-only. And I have closed Eudora on the WinXP.

Alas, when I try to start Win95 Eudora, I get this error message:

Could not open the file e:\my-stuff.d\eudora\descmap.pce for reading. Cause: access permission denied. File may be marked as read-only or locked (13)

If I try the reverse (running Eudora on WinXP using mailboxes on Win95), it works just fine.

So I assume I've got an Admin issue on WinXP that's giving me the above error message when I try to access its mailboxes from Win95.

I set WinXP for remote administration, but that didn't help at all.

    What do I try next?

    Thank you!
    Mark

    I have a question.

Is that really a good thing to do ?

I ask because of the POSSIBILITY of a mail containing malicious code S****ing up BOTH machines.

Sharing is nice but I do not think mail boxes is the place to use it.

    A suggestion.

Get MailWasher to prescreen the mail and select any trash that you do not need or want. Then when you select Process mail it will delete anything checked and start you Eudora to download the rest.

Thank you for your caution, BillyBob:

I think McAfee should cover that, not?

Even so, your MailWasher suggestion is a good one and your caution definitely worthy of note.

But I'd still like to know how to resolve my networking problem. :)

    Gratefully,

I have a strong feeling that it has a lot to do with XP Permmission settings and other stuff on XP.

On my LAN ( using a Router ) I can send stuff to a 98SE machine but at times I can't get stuff from 98SE to XP due to settings on XP I guess. And I am both admistrator and the only user with administator priviledges.
