installing windows 2000 from windows 1995

    when i try to install windows 2000 i get so far and an error message comes up and says "no valid partitions are found. setup is unable to continue.

    You may not like this, but I'm not really going to troubleshoot your problem, I'm going to suggest a better way to do this.
    Depending on how much important information is on this win95 machine, I would suggest starting anew with a clean formatted harddrive.
    Or try and find a way to backup all important info and then do a clean install.

    I, personally, would not want to upgrade from win95 to win2k.
    But that's just me;)

    I agree with Holy, I personally wouldn't upgrade from 95 to w2k...I would start out fresh....95 is just horrible for upgrading in my personal opinion.

    If your looking for a way to do a mass backup of data files from your 95 machine, I have found that if the pc isn't on a network the easiest way is a 2nd hd. I grabbed a couple old 1-2 gig hd's from work and I just use them for backing up pc's when reinstalling or whatever. Just plug it in as a slave and then copy the files over. If you dont have an old extra hd and your friends with your companies IT department ask them if they have any old hardware they are getting rid of.
