Let me get this straight, because I don't know if I understand what's going on.
First the numbers. You had FF1.0, and then then what was the next step? You mention version 2, probably 1.02, and, later version 1. probably 1.01. Have you uninstalled from the Con trol Panel? Do you have more than one version installed at the same time?
And, before going into more guesswork, do you mean that the scroll bar is stuck? Unless you do it correctly you should not have more than one version installed at the same time, unless they are installed in different folders, and you use different profiles. Honestly, I don't understand what you did. But, if there is only one Firefox in the Add/Remove, uninstall it, reboot the computer, and try again with 1.02. But, please explain this scroll thing.

    No Scroll in Firefox

I run firefox on several computers.
The scroll function does not work on any of the laptops tried, either old or new.
I suspect you are suffering from the same issue.

I just installed 1.0.2 on a brand new hp pavilion, and even with a regular mouse, nothing.
    So it isnt you.

    Check this: http://www.mcse.ms/message129684.html
I don't know what would be the effect of using a regular mouse. But, I have seen the problem reported and not only with Firefox.
But, there may be more than that, but surely not an uncommon problem. Did you get the latest driver?

    Welcome to the BBS.

Do you mean your wheel will not scroll? Mine works just fine in FF 1.0.3.

This original post was clear to me, until I reread it, and I saw the third post which is unclear to me. So far, the problem seemed that that it was limited to laptops, but, if I am not mistaken, HP Pavillion is a desktop. Is this meant that the previously reported problem with laptop extends to desktops, as well?
I have a Microsoft Optical Mouse, and, I am using the Autoscroll extention. It has worked like a charm since Firefox was a bird! (Phoenix, and then Firebird).
    I just got 1.0.3 final.
I would not mind a confirmation of the problem.

the pavilion refered to is a zd8000 series laptop with touchpad.
The scroll indicator shows, but firefox refuses the command.
Scrolling works extremely well with all other applications.

This as I indicated is what I experience with other laptops as well, including an older fujitsu lifebook, a very common computer with a rocker-mouse instead of touchpad.

Firefox works great on desktop units.

Altering driver settings or allowing for more scrolling realestate on the pad would be pointless, as the issue is firefox's ability to recognize the command from the specific laptops that I have used it on - for whatever reason.

Perhaps about:config has a switch, but I have no time to troubleshoot this.

I've been using FF for two years, since it was named Phoenix. During that time I have used it on three IBM laptops, which have the advantage of having an eraserhead pointing stick. The latest, a T40, also has a touchpad (deactivated because I detest touchpads).

I normally use a Microsoft USB IntelliMouse Optical with the laptop. When traveling, I use a Kensington USB wireless optical mouse; occasionally, though, I use the eraserhead. No matter which laptop, no matter which version/build of Phoenix/Firebird/Firefox, the scroll function has always worked, whether I use the mouse wheel or drag the scrollbar.

    raw0055 and silencergroup ...

Do you have any themes or extensions installed that might be preventing FF from operating properly?

If you can, try to uninstall them from Tools > Extensions.

If you can't, open FF in its Safe Mode (Start > Run > <path to>\firefox.exe -safe-mode). This bypasses extensions/themes and allows you to uninstall them.

If this doesn't restore FF to normal operation you probably have something mucked up in your registry. Just uninstalling FF still leaves lots of stuff behind in the registry, so there's no guarantee that a new installation will work. Try this ...
After uninstalling FF, make certain that all components except your profile folder have been removed:
    1. Delete any remnants of the FF program folder and the Mozilla folder (C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Mozilla\.

    2. Copy your FF profile folder to a safe location, then delete the original.

    3. If you don't have a program like RegSeeker, get it. It doesn't need to be installed, as it runs from its own folder. Do a search for "firefox" (no quotes), and delete any references you find.
Reinstall Firefox. Personally, I prefer the .zip versions (which can still be found here) to the installer (.exe) versions, but use whichever you prefer. Before running the program, run the profile manager (Start > Run > <path to>\firefox.exe -p). Create a new profile.
Hopefully, FF's scroll function will now work normally. If it does, copy your old profile back and see if the scroll function still works. In any case, please post back.
