The machine cannot get to desktop

I messed up my file system. I tried to install Norton system works 2002. I enountered a "corrupt file" message and I continued the installion thinking it was not a big deal. But when I try to restart the computer, it boots and it shows up the icons. But then it shuts down itself and restart again and shuts down itself after loading windows 2X. I try to start with safe mode and it does. But I cannot uninstall Norton system works 2002. I rally don't know what happened. I just wanted to install NSW2002 and buy NSW2005 through liveupdate feature so I can get the upgrade price. But now I really messed up. The AV that I run before I install NSW 2002 is EZ armor. The machine can start with safe mode. I hope there is something I can do under safe mode to fix it.

Can't say for fact that this will work but may be worth a try.

Boot to safe mode and try running norton. If it will run try doing a full system scan and see what happens.

Again, in safe mode, you might try running norton, if it will, and turning off auto protect. This will shut down a lot of norton and may make it possible to boot to normal windows so you can un-install and retry.
