A problem that I've been experiencing since installing Service Pack 2 is that whenever I save an email attachment (normally a .jpg) in Outlook Express 6 there is often a delay of about 2 - 5 seconds before it is saved. This happens regardless of the size of the file.

Under the security settings internet zone has been selected and the allow attachments option has been selected.

This has only become an issue since Service Pack 2 was installed, prior to this, I didn't have any problems and the attachments were saved almost instantly.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    paul1nz - Welcome to the Board :)

If you have large *.dbx files - the storage files for your OE folders, e.g inbox.dbx, etc this can cause OE to act strangely.

Search your drive for *.dbx and see what size the dbx folders are - a few Mb is generally OK. (You can find the location of the Store Folder by Tools > Options > Maintenance Tab > Store Folder)

It may just be that your computer is a little under powered - CPU and RAM?

As a test I emailed myself a 100Kb jpeg - it saved instantly on my m/c running AMD 2.08 GHz and 1.5 Gb RAM.

    Hi Pete,

Thanks for the reply, I don't think the size of the .dbx files is the problem as it happens when they're all but empty. Power could be an issue, I'm running a 1.3 gHz processor and 256 MB RAM.

All was well before I installed sp2, I wonder if it might have something to do with the Attachment Manager which is part of Sp2. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find any way of disabling this - apart from adjusting the security options in OE.

Hi Paul and welcome to you.

Your PC specs do indicate you would benefit quite a bit from adding memory but that's probably not news to you. 512 and things get lots faster. 1024 and they are about as good as you will get from that processor. BTW - I run one a little slower than yours (1 Ghz) and no problems but I do have quite a bit more memory. By all means bump things up to at least 512 if you possibly can.

SP2 certainly could have caused the speed issue but probably not via the attachment manager. It seems to either block/warn or stay out of the way and with .jpg, .gif, .tif, etc., it should not have a noticible effect on the way they are handled.

Is anything besides saving email attachments running slower than it should be?
