Hi there.. XP Pro running on an Athlon XP 1500+, 256 megs ram, ati video, new LG cdrom and new Sony CDRW.. This setup has worked great for 9 months and the new CDR / CDRW's have run great in this machine for 2 months..

Then .. yesterday.. for no visible reason .. both of them ceased to exist to XP .. checked cabling etc no probs .. checked in device manager, both devices are yellow exclamation'd.. uninstall both and reboot.. says it found both "new" devices upon reboot.. yet neither show up, check device manager again, CDROM is flagged as disabled, CDRW is still yellowed, I try and re-enable the CDROM, it tells me it cant.

Things Ive Tried: Reinstalling XP (pain in the butt that was, "cant find ASMS" error) - this confirmed that both CD devices work as I could access them from my WinME boot disk boot.. checked all cabling, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers.. I installed no new software, no new hardware prior to this occuring..

Help .. please.. anyone :) thanks in advance..

    Brett

    Hmmm

Winxp pro & access from win ME? What are you trying to do here? Sounds like a virus go ya first, then you went from bad to worse with your efforts! Shoulda cleaned winxp, then ran sfc.exe at command prompt. Prolly to late now. Also repair winxp is past good. Solution now is Clean install by booting from winxp cd. Set bios to first device=cdrom second=c save/exit with winxp in tray. Follow menu for NEW install:)

Maybe ASPI got corrupted? Check to see if all working and correctly installed.
