    Hi,

I have few computers in a home network. My XP machine is using static IP address. Everything was working perfectly until windows update that took place automatically yesterday. My XP's static ip is 192.168.1.98

I can ping using localhost and 127.0.0.1 from XP. But I cannot ping using 192.168.1.98 from the XP machine. I get Request timed out. I can go to any of the 3 other machines (Apple, 2000, Linux) on the network and ping using 192.168.1.98 and it works! Any help is highly appreaciated. :

    Thanks!

Is your XP firewall (may have been turned on by update), or any other firewall enabled on that machine?

Thank you for your response. :)

I uses Norton to setup firewall. I checked everything there. Nothing has changed. However, Widows firewall used to be off. This was turned on by yesterday's update. I turned that off. I still cannot ping using my static ip.

I'm assuming you have tried rebooting? Do you have any other network connections enabled/active on that machine?

Might try uninstalling and reinstalling that NIC. Are there any updated drivers for that NIC?

Go into Admin Tools/Services and disable Windows Firewall. I'll bet if you examikne running tasks in Task manager you'll see the Windows Firewall process still running! (ALG.EXE)
