    Marcye,
I am not going to guess the whys, but I can tell you the hows. First of all you should know where your profile is located, and it varies with operating System. This link from Ramona's Netscape Solutions should tell you where the profile is located. Check the profile folder, and see what's there.
Secondly, what version did you have, and what is it showing now (Help|About Netscape), and why do you think that it is an earlier version?
Take a look at at this from the same location and you should be striking paydirt.
You might as well skip the part on prefs.js, because if this problem hit you like this you may not be aware of these precautions.
Don't do any more than necessary, and you should still have everything, though out of kilter.
Problems like yours seem to be due, in every case I heard to some improper setting or installation. Let's take care of one thing at a time.

    Earlier version

When I open my email, it just shows messages up until April of 2004...about the time I updated to a newer version of Netscape. Under "About Netscape" it shows the version as 7.1. Also, all the bookmarks are from about a year ago as well, as is the format of the page. I think I found the under documents and settings\username\application data\mozilla\profiles...but this file is not in the Netscape folder. It looks like what may have happened is that the folder was somehow wiped out of the Netscape user folder and it reverted to an older version? That said, I am going to go and read the rest of your reply, as I wanted to post that before I got confused. I'm wondering if I can move that user file to the Netscape folder? Thanks, Marcye

    Welcome to the Forum, Marcye!

    Marcye,

First, in Windows XP these files are hidden:
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
    4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files. "
    5. Click OK.

Have you done this? If so you should see more than one Profile Name subfolder listed under the Profiles folder. One will no doubt be listed as "default user ".

What you need to do is to direct Netscape to the original Profile Name subfolder.

Right click your Netscape Desktop Shortcut
    Select: Properties
    Click the "Shortcut" tab
To the end of the "Target" field, add this information:
    Add one space after \netscp.exe"
Next add: -p yourprofilename e.g., if your profile name is marcye, then your Target line would be similar to this:

    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles -p marcye

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

    Ramona
