After boot up into XP Pro, Norton Internet Security says no TCP/IP installed for email scanning. Checked symantec.com with error and did all they had to say. (nothing was wrong from their list).

The same computer tech messed up 2 Windows 98 computers in the same way but the fix there was simple go to Network setting and delete out everything and reboot, then add whatever Windows 98 did not put back in when autodetecting the NIC.

I attempted the same in XP but you are not able to uninstall the TCP/IP in network settings.

I can ping any address on the LAN. I can not connect to the Internet or get email. I cannot get an IP from the router's DHCP server. Static does nothing either. I added TCP/IP Version 6, Netbeui, trying to get TCP/IP to reinstall. I even replaced some files that I know are TCP/IP & Winsock related from another XP PRO.

    Any ideas to try???

    Thanks.

Personally i would get rid of Norton, there are plenty free ones out there avg for one, it dose the job without messing up your computer unlike Norton.
I f you do not know how to put your TCP/ IP back manually then just put your IP setup disk in and go through the set up again, it should configure your system again for you

Try resetting your TCP/IP configuration - the result is a new configuration which does the same thing as an uninstall would on other systems.

Start > Run > netsh int ip reset filename - you must specify a file name such as Ipstuff.txt.

After netsh.exe runs the file will contain a detailed log of the Registry keys modified in case you need the information later.

Suggest you unplug the PC from the router while you do this and may be an advantage to reset the router to its defaults.
    Probably most unwise :(

I had to put a new Winblow in so they could run tomorrow but I kept a copy. I will put it into a PC tomorrow so I have 3 days to play. I figure this happens once it will happen lots more times on other PCs.

    Thanks for the help.
