    Hello,

What can be used to clean a LCD monitor screen from fingerprints and dirt? A dry cloth just doesn't do it>

From a web page: "The official word on LCD cleaning in Apple manuals is to use a solution of diluted isopropyl alcohol, no more than a 50% solution. Usually the rubbing alcohol you buy at a drugstore that is either 90% or 98% pure but 98% is pretty hard to get (you don't need it anyway). I mix 1 part water and 1 part 90% isopropyl alcohol, which works out to... um.. something just under a 50% solution.
Be absolutely sure to use a very VERY soft cloth. I use a piece of soft flannel. Do NOT use paper towels or anything more abrasive than an old worn out cotton Tshirt. Absolutely do NOT use windex or anything with ammonia in it, it can etch the screen surface and can cause the plastic to go cloudy. You don't want that to happen!
BTW, there is a commercial cleaning solution called something like Klear-Screen, it's pretty expensive. It is merely a 50% solution of isopropyl alcohol and water. Just like I make, for a fraction of the cost. "

Check the manufacture website or the user manual of the lcd monitor. Most of these monitors are coated on the surface w/ a plastic compound. Some of these do NOT recommend using any alcohol as alcohol will cause etching and permanent streaking. Definitelty NO ammonia compounds should ever be used, such as Windex. A safe bet if you can find them are those "monitor wipes" in plastic can, the kind that are amonia & alcohol free.

Thanks, I will look into those wipes, I wasn't to keen on the alcohol idea.

Armoral and a soft cloth - just like what you'd use on your dashboard.

Not Rim Cleaner - just plain ol' white armoral. Its made for vinyl products and you can buy it just about anywhere. Yellow, orange and black label. Give your neighbor a call - he/she will have some in their garage.

Be VERY careful with these. I used some of these on my IIYama Prolite and they have left a permenant mark that you can see when the screen is displaying dark colours. I am sure some are OK, but have read on more than one site/forum that people have had major problems when using these. The material on the wipe is too abrasive anyway and is designed for glass.

I use a yellow duster now, it is very soft, but has trouble with any marks.

    Yes, this is true.
Get the wipes that are ammonia and alcohol free, or less than 3% alcohol.
