Occasionally I attempt to restore my system to a previous date. All goes well until the computer restarts, whereupon I get the message that I've been unsuccessful in restoring to the date chosen. I can't remember the last time I've been successfull in restoring. Is there a 'usual' reason for this occurrance? Thank you.

    Hi.

Have you tried Smart Restore from the Start\All Programs\Internet & Security folder? If you get a '16 Bit not suitable.....' message, your Autoexec.NT, Config.NT or Command.com files have become corrupted. A quick solution can be found in XP_FIX.exe from visualtour.com.

    Good luck

Indeed, Pete and Rowal, I don't have SmartRestore. It must be peculiar to Packard.

However, I followed your suggestion, Charles (as explained in your post at the link you provided), changed the disk space usage to 6%, rebooted and changed again to 12%, and, voila!, system restore worked when using the test you mentioned. I'm much obliged for your help, gentlemen. :)
