I go to Windows Update and get Error 0x8024402c. It seems this has something to do with a proxy setting. Since I am using DSL to get to MSN ISP, there are no proxy settings. Tried the Run CMD things that are suggested, and they are not recognized. Dug around with Google, and nothing there worked. Turned off McAfee Firewall, and it worked. Turned on firewall, and it would not let me in. This has never happened before. Had this firewall for years. Do not like to go on the web without a firewall, so I would appreciate any help with this. Thanks!

Have you tried the following ...

    0x8024402C -or- 0x8024502d error codes
To resolve these errors, remove characters from the proxy exception list,
and then clear the proxy cache. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open Internet Explorer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    3. Click the Connections tab, click LAN Settings, and then click Advance.
    4. Delete any entry in the Exceptions section.
    5. Quit Internet Explorer.
    6. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
    7. Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
    • proxycfg -d
    • net stop wuauserv
    • net start wuauserv

If above does not resolve, you can temporally use XP firewall and disable McAfee for MS updates. Seen Google posts stating same problem with Norton Internet Security, so it does not seem to be related to firewalls.

Thanks Dennis L, but I tried all those things, and none worked. Cmd does not see those things. Maybe because there are no proxys used?

I have changed nothing. I went back to Windows Update with McAfee firewall on and now I got In. I will not sneeze, yell or breathe hard near this machine. All hail to Microsoft. I hope I spelt hail rite.

Not sure if the error (0x8024402C) required a active used proxy connection .. apparently something was / could cause corruption in the module.
Hopefully the resolve process corrected it.

I hope I spelt hail rite.
    :p I thin sew. :D
