    Hi,

I just installed SP2 for XP Home and everything's fine except that everytime I boot up, I get a "new hardware found" wizard that wants me to install software for my old HP Laserjet 3100 printer.

The problem is, there is no software for it other than what I've previously installed. The printer works fine, but that **** wizard won't go away even though I check that box that says "don't prompt me again" for to install it.

    Any suggestions?

Thanks, Charles. but none of those proposed problems or solutions are relevant. Nothing's wrong with device manager -- although the printer isn't listed there, it is listed in control panel and works fine.

Anyway, I've been using this printer for 3 years with XP and never had a problem with the "new hardware found" wizard until installing SP2 this morning.

    Hi dkline,

One thing you can try is to uninstall the printer and re-install it.

If as you say there are no driver updates for this printer, that's about the only course if action to take at this point.

Have you been thru the sticky at the top of this section - XP2 support center?

There is also a site about SP2 issues encountered by users, I'll hunt that down and get back.

    Regards - Charles

Oh God, it was tricky enough installing that printer for XP originally. I don't look forward to doing it again.

The event viewer showed only a problem with "service control manager" being disabled. So I started it. But I still get the "new hardware found" wizard.

    Oy.

Make sure you create a manual System Restore point before this it was tricky enough installing that printer for XP originally

That way you at least get back to "now" if something goes wrong.

    Regards - Charles
