I accidentally saved a Microsoft Word file over another file. The saved-over file needs to be restored...

i've read that in other versions of windows, there were ways of restoring previous versions of saved files. Is there something like this for Windows XP or perhaps a free program i can download from somewhere?

    help is needed asap... thanks

    Hello GDawz,

i've read that in other versions of windows, there were ways of restoring previous versions of saved files.
The only versions of windows that has a "backup" of sorts is WinMe and XP - System Restore.

It does not backup every file, its primary purpose is to protect the OS system files. File types that I know it does not monitor (backup) are text files/word files.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/sr/sr/monitored_file_extensions.asp
The link is to a MS web page that lists the file extensions monitored.

In addition, anything in the My Documents folder is not monitored, regardless of file type.

or perhaps a free program i can download from somewhere?
I don't know of one, perhaps someone else does.

    Regards - Charles
