I have just installed windows 98 se on two computers after formatting them both and now every so often instead of the green default background I get the active desktop even tho I never changed it.

Also I ran system file checker after the clean installs and it came up with a file on both computers that may be corrupt and need replacing which is weird.

Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?

    Thanks

Thanks for the info - a common error with Win 98 - I'll ignore it. I did not run updates on them as one has no connection and the other one is fairly slow on a 56k modem.

Any other ideas on the other problem?

    Cheers

I have noticed the file "Setupx.Dll'' will also show up as corrupt in SFC after an upgrade installation of DirectX. It would not hurt to let SFC replace that file, as it has not been updated over the years.
