looking for advice on virtual desktop freeware

    I tried a virtual desktop componet a long time ago, it was problematic, and I gave up on it. I am now at the point where I am again considering it, and am looking for advice that anyone might provide. Altho I have not yet taken the time to research the issue (and would rather not...), I did accidentally run across the following link which would seem to provide a summary of what is available, biased or not, timely or not...

    So, any suggestions?

    edit: one gig of memory, fairly fast processor and HD, with XP SP1 maybe going to SP2 by 4/12... I am considering Xdesk free version...

    does the MS powertoys virtual desktop (easily) allow having different desktop icons on different desktops ?
