i would like to have a picture as a background to a open folder instead of just the normal white background or even change the color instead of white.

I'm not sure about a picture but you can change the colour.

Desktop Properties>Appearance>Advanced. Under Item choose Window and change to your preferred colour.

JSS3rd linked to a neat little app that will let you change the background here. Good one Jim! :)

For those who wish to use pictures as backgrounds in folders and do not wish to use 3rd party software you can right click in any folder and select "Customize this folder "

    Take it from there....

    Mron ...

Not to be picky, but it's right-click, select "Properties ", then click on the "Customize" tab (at least in the Classic view ... it may be different in Luna). Note that this works only on folders ... the third party app mentiond above works on both folders and drives.

    Not to be picky?
That's not being picky, it's being more precise, thanks.

I'm using classic mode and would never have known. With the settings I am using there is the option direct from a right click. XP Pro

There are a number of differences between the XP Standard (Luna) view, and the Classic (like Win9.x) view, other than just appearance. I thought the "Customize" feature might be one of them.

Like you and many others on the BBS, I use Classic, and am not very familiar with Luna, other than to know that I don't like it. :)

I could be wrong, but when you use XPs customize feature, you can only change the way the folder itself looks, the thumbnail view of it, not the background seen when you open the folder.

    Hi Dave,

Truthfully, I've never tried it. Instead, I use a little program from PC Mag called "DeFolder ", which allows me to change the image for an open folder from the default to something else.

I happen to use this particular one because it stands out.

Believe me, I've got dozens of them! :D

Every one of them just helps make computing more comfortable (or, at least, more interesting)!
