I have 3 browsers installed on my system, and at this very moment I am thankful that I do.

Yesterday and today OE and Netscape both refused to run when I told them to. The only browser that would open was Firefox. And so right now, that is the only way I am able to post this message for help.

I sure hope someone out there has some answered.
Again, I'm baffled! This has never happened before yesterday. And no, I have not installed anything new since then.

I have just discovered that OE will open by clicking a link in a received e-mail, but that is all. Still confused. I'm going to run sfc and see if that will fix anything. I will also run my spyware programs, but I doubt that has anything to do with it since I have SpyGuard running all the time. Oh well.

    Thanks

How about system restore? That would be the first and easiest thing to try since it's only been happening in the last day or two.

Also, in your post you twice referred to OE. I'm assuming that's a typo and it should be IE but I thought I'd ask about it, just in case I'm wrong. Did you mean IE?

If system restore doesn't do it, what happens when you try to open them? Any error messages?

    Hello Zander,

I'm so sorry. You guessed correctly, I was intending IE, not OE....LOL But I was only able to get IE to open when I used a link in an e-mail in OE.

Anyway, I am terrified of System Restore, and I definitely do NOT want to go back to factory settings. I had to do that with my old PC, and that one didn't have a cd/rw dirve. It was a nightmare. I really do not want to go that route........please?

There's no need to be afraid of system restore. It won't wipe everything out. It only sets things back to the time of whatever restore point you select. If you were to select a date from two days ago, things would be set back to the way they were two days ago. Any data files you've aquired since then will still be available to you. The only catch would be that any programs you've installed since then may need to be reinstalled. In your case, it doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about there. Try it and select a date where you know things were still working. If it was two days ago, you'll want to select a restore point from two days ago.

Perhaps you have the use of system restore mixed up with using a restore disk to restore the computer to it's original state? You run the system restore I'm talking about by clicking start>all programs>accessories>sytem tools>system restore. Give it a try. If it doesn't work you can always run system restore again and you'll have the option to either try another day or to restore it back to where it was before you used system restore (today's date).

    Hello Zander

Before I came looking for help, I basically did what you suggest. I have a program called Registry Compactor, and before it compacts the registry, it always backs up the current registry settings. It must have been quite a while back when I ran it the last time, because I had to re-install several programs after restoring my computer to that last back-up. I found I still had the same problem with trying to access my forum that I am having the problem with now. And after going back is when the scripting messages started popping up again. I had a problem with them before, and tried a gazillion things, and finally they stopped, but I had done so many alterations, I never did know which one caused them to stop. I was just glad they did. After I restored my registry to that last setting, that problem returned.

Last night I tried system restore, twice actually. I went all the way back to January of 2005, and it told me it couldn't be done. No doubt because the settings are already back further when I did the registry thing.

Needless to say, I am still unable to access my forum on Infoave, but I did stop the scripting messages. I have disabled scripting of Java applets and active scripting both. But I have discovered that by doing that, my web pages are coming up missing things that were there before I disabled the scripting. I can't think of another setting to stop them though. If you have a better idea, I would appreciate it.

Thank you for your continued help.

Are you able to sign in on your infoave forum using Firefox? If so, does it set a cookie so that you can sign back in automatically? If so, also, this would say that IE is the problem, would it not?

In IE options>Privacy tab, Try advanced and put a check mark in the top box and allow 1st party cookies, block 3rd party cookies, and put a check in the allow session cookies. See if that works for setting a cookie for your infoave forum.

I think the best thing is to first find out what is working and go from there.

I'm sure we can work this out....

    Thank you Bill,

But the fact of the matter is that neither EI, Netscape, nor Firefox are able to sign me into to the Infoave Forum successfully. Whatever the problem is, it seems it is not in the browser. And I can't for the life of me figure out what it could be.

I already do have my browser set to accept all session cookies, 1st part and 3rd party, at all times. So that can't be what is causing it. I also have Infoave marked as a trusted site.

Still hoping someone can figure this out.
