This question applies to Windows 2000 as well.

We have PC's in the field running Windows XP SP1. Our Windows based suport is handled by an outsourced company. However, we need to maintain support binders with recovery disks for the operating systems.

My question is, can a Windows XP SP2 disk repair a prior service pack install?

    Also, can a Windows 2000 SP4 disk can repair a SP1 install?

    Hello Chris,

Having never tried this, my take is: All the major SP2 software applets within the OS are newer versions, my quess is that if it does work, you would end up with an installation that was now a SP2 installation.

    Can't speak to WK2.

If only SP1 exists SP2 will not only repair but upgrade at the same time.

And once SP2 is install all repair installs must be done from it Not the original XP or SP1.
