    I have encountered a problem since I installed AOL Call Alert. Whenever I try to use IE, it closes off, usually including the message:

    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program:C:\Program Files\InternetExplorer\IExplore.Exe
    abnormal program termination

    Is there a workaround? I used a procedure described in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (316512) that was for Millenium Edition but it did not work. I would appreciate any help I can get.

    Hi S.L. Cain, and welcome to the board!
    I tried to research for problems with your particular application "Call Alert" but ran into brickwalls that may have lead to anything concrete....

    Not being familiar with or an AOL user or a registered user of "Call Alert ", I "was not "/ "am not" privy to much of the sources I would need to research any of the bugs or glitches that are associated with this application. I did however get the idea or impression that this application and service is full of "mine fields" that must be avoided or ironed out. Have you tried requesting support help from your applications support services? I understand they do have a "Toll Free phone number" that can be used. Barring that, perhaps bbs or chat services, geared towards AOL users and through your AOL support, will be more helpful in finding answers for specific problems with "Call Alert ". :( Sorry, I tried.

    If this problem is not specifically associated with a known conflict between ' "Call Alert" and IE', or many of the options or specific versions of co-application needed/required, that must be set in "Call Alert ", it may be because of a third element "possibly unknown to you ". yaaahaahaa....scary isn't it? :) See paragraph below.

    I can suggest that, often the runtime error references, pointing towards Ixeplore.exe and "abnormal program termination ", are most often associated with malware/adware critters. Are you familiar with this subject? Do you routinely run "Spybot and or Lavasofts Adware "? Virus scan with latest dat file? On-line scan? Have you ever ran "hijack this "? If you are not familiar with these and you wish to, please go to our security forum and the subforum, read the stickies, pinned at the top of these forums, follow the directions, given in the order asked. If problems are found, this will probably lead you to the security subforum where (in my opinion) some of the best experts on the Net, in this area, can gently walk you through any cleanup procedures you will need to go through.

    Spybot & AdAware

    I use both regularly and update at least once a week, I'm not finding anything there hijacking the browser because it happens everytime I run.
    I'm going to get on your security area and see if there is an answer over there. Thanks.
