Can anybody help me out with Headers in Microsoft Word? I have a book in a word file and all I want to do is omit the headers on the first pages of each chapter while keeping the same style headers for all the other pages. I know this has to be fairly simple, but I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks in advance.

I think you need to divide the document into Sections - each section = 1 chapter. You can then set up the headers for each Chapter, omitting the header on the first page of each section or chapter.

Okay, thanks. When you do this does the page numbering restart or does it continue from the previous section?

It seems to me that in you used to be able to just click a button that said "suppress header on this page" and that was it. I guess that option is no longer available...

I don't know offhand re page nos, but why not try it? The Undo button will revert for you.

The nearest I can get to no header on the first page is under Page Setup > Layout > Headers and Footers - Different first Page and leave the header blank in the document.

Yep, you just click section break, put your new header in and it automatically continues from the previous section, leaving out page one. If you change the chapter heading to something different than it still leaves the rest of the headers the same as in the first section.

This was actually much easier than the help files made it seem.

Yes the numbering just happens automatically when you start a new section. It continues all the way back to page one.

Thanks for the update on that! I write a few articles on Photoshop for a digital magazine, but have not had the need to section a piece.
