I upgraded a computer with windows 98 to windows xp. Now when it boots up the monitor jumps and is hard to read. I hooked the upgraded computer to my 19" monitor and it works fine. I search the monitor section and didn’t see any threads that help me. The monitor is an old packer bell 15 ". Could it be that it will not carry the xp windows?

Does XP see the monitor as a Plug and play monitor or as a Packard Bell? You may need to update the monitor driver. If the monitor worked with 98 there is no reason that it should not work with XP, unless it has coincidentally developed a fault. Check the video cable and the D-sub pins.

Does the 15" monitor work on your computer with the 19 "?

As the computer works OK with your 19" monitor I doubt there's a problem with the video card drivers.

I hook the other windows xp computer to the monitor and got the same thing. It boots up and then gives me a triple picture that is blured. I guess it might be the monitor. I got the computer from a friend who bought a new one and I was trying to fix this one for some kids that live across the street form me who don't have one so its not a big deaL. I will look around for another monitor. Thanks for the help. I though there might be a different setting for an old monitor like this one using xp.

That Monitor might be VGA only. Not able to cope with the default 800x600 x 16bit minimum screen settings in Xp. You CAN force xp to use a lower setting but without a different monitor to set it up and maintain it, it won't be easy.
