i replaced my motherboard with a new one...I want to re-install windows 2000 without having reload everything. I did a "repair" as suggested in Microsoft Article ID 824125. That didn't work. I tried to do a re-install but the install did not recognize that I already have a version of 2000 on the HD already. lI know it's there because I can boot on it only to get the blue screen of course. Any suggestion as to why it dowsn't recognize that a 2000 version already exists on the HD.

If you boot from the CD as suggested, how far can you get in the process? Is it seeing the hard drive and partitions?

I'm allowed to select "R" for repair, the CD then looks for windows installation and does not find any.....If I select the option to install, it doesn't find any previous 2000 installations and then it finds the partition but will not let me use it....My only option is to delete it which I don't want to do..

Is the drive formatted with NTFS? If not, boot with a regular boot disk (DOS, Win98) and see what is showing on the drive. I have a hunch that your system is not seeing the partitions correctly.

I checked.....The drive is NTFS....I can actually boot up and run windows 2000 on the HD....But I want to but in a different MB and do a repair instead of reloading everything.

ALso, If i choose to install from the CD, it sees a big partition labeled as "Unknown" and it won't let me install to it...It says I need to delete the partition and re-partition. Again, the install does not recognize that I already have Windows 2000 OS on the HD.
