I had to use the system restore and it put the netframe work back into my add /remove programs list.
Since I had already deleted it before using the system restore, it would not let me delete the entry out of the add/remove programs

I deleted the netframe work files from the registry and from the uninstall in the registry but it still is in the add/remove list.

is there any way to remove this?
when I was running the defrag it said something about couldn't defrag the netframe shell or something to that effect.

    thanks

    Hello shortgal,

    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

    Scoll down to:
Add and Remove -Removing Invalid Entries in the Add/Remove Programs Tool

However, that may not solve this:
when I was running the defrag it said something about couldn't defrag the netframe shell or something to that effect

You may have to re-install and uninstall it again.

You might consider this tool or one like it to avoid problems like this http://www.webattack.com/get/totaluninstall.shtml

    Regards - Charles

thank you so much Charles, for the help and the link. I followed it to another link at microsoft and downloaded a program called "Windows Installer Clean Up"

I ran it and it got rid of it, just like that. way cool. :)

I already have a program that takes a snapshot of my computer and shows the changes made, it is my "Sytem Mechanic by Iola" but I have never used that part of it because I am not sure how it works, but I will try it the next time before I install a program.

    again, many thanks :D

    Hi Shortgal,

    You're welcome.

You've reminded me that I've had the Windows cleanup progam on my system for a year now, totaly forgot about it.

I am sorry to bring this back up but I still have the netframework installed even after I ran the "windows unistaller program.

It did take the entry out of the "add, remove programs" but in the Belarc Advisor it is still showing it as being installed and when I go to the "windows update page" I keep getting the high priority to install the hotfix for netframe 1.1 "

so, I cannot uninstall it, nor can I re-download it. I had to hide the hotfix update because the little yellow install updates icon kept coming up in my task bar.

You are not using System Restore to your advantage.

I think you have just proven a point that I have made MANY TIMES about System Restore.

After any type of cleanup work, and you find all seems to be OK, CREATE A NEW RESTORE POINT and label it "afterrmgXYZ" . Or something that you know refers to the system AFTER the cleanup work.

I myself after finding that all should be OK shutdown and restart SR. THis COMPLETELY remove the possibility of what happened to you from happening again.

    PS.
Guess where I learned this ?

    Added note.

In fact when I was doing A LOT OF MAJOR cleanup of this machine I made Restore points at various steps along the way. And again labled them in steps.

By the time I got all cleaning done I had about 8 of them.

I left them alone for a day or two and them removed them.

I can't redownload it from the windows update page, because it does not appear in the downloads, I have it search for updates and the only one I get is " hotfix for netframework 1.1.

I have searched my computer and have no refrences to netframework, as I uninstalled it and also deleted it out of the registry, but somewhere in my files is something that makes windows update think that it is still installed.

Is there another place I can download it from?

I even looked in the system32 for any refrences to netframework and none were there. A mystery.

I am going back to my factory install as soon as I get out today and get some blank cdrw's for my sim stuff. I have had it with this computer today. :(
