I use a peer to peer network with five computers, 2 xp pros, 1 xp home, 1 win2000 and one win98. Here's my problem.

The win98 has begun giving me a statusclient error message. It's happened three times in the past week. It freezes the computer forcing a hard shutdown. The message detail says "statusclient caused an invalid page fault in module kernel 32.dll at 0177:6ff7d760.

I never know what these error messages mean. My real problem is that this computer holds a very serious database for my business. I needed to access it while I was on vacation (i use "gotomypc ") and it worked great for three days. On the forth day, i got a shutdown message. When i got home, i found the status message on the computer. I think there was a brief power outage because my refrigerator ice was partially melted ... but the message has happened twice since then when I was not using gotomypc.

I have just added two xp pros to my network. Everything seems to be ok. I am in the process of replacing the win98 with another xp so everything will talk the same language. But i am afraid of how it's acting presently.

    Anyone got any thoughts?

    Thanks
    PS
I back up every day both in house and off premise.
I use Kerio firewall. could this be causing a problem?

Also ... I would like a reliable power supply back up to keep my computer on when I'm traveling and I'm considering the apc Smart-UPS XL 750VA but it's pricey. 1,138. Anyone have any cheaper alternatives for keeping a computer on when they travel and need to access it?

    Thanks again.

You have an HP device driver issue.

You may want to either re-install, or un-install your HP device. Please write back if this does not help.

do you have any idea what kind of problem? I have two hp printers ... one is a network printer and the other is a local printer which it was using when the message appeared. I have a win98 driver for this printer and the printer itself is not on the network. Could the network printer be interferring with this local printer's driver? Perhaps I should take the network printer off of this computer.

    Thanks

Local printer connected to WIN98 machine in question is a HP1000.

Network printer connected to another XP Pro is a HP LaserJet 1320.

I had to take the HP 1000 off the network, because the XP's didn't like talking to it even tho the proper drivers were installed on the xp's. When a program like Lotus tried to access a file on the WIN98 machine, it tried to create the page with the win98 driver and it just hung. XPs are real snobby about anything to do with win98. So I bought the new HP LaserJet 1320 to be used by the XP's and removed the HP1000 from the network.

So now, I'm getting this error message when I accessed the computer remotely when I was on vacation, not printing anything, but also when I was printing this morning from the local printer.

The new HP printer is also on the WIN98 printer list, but I wasn't using it.

    Hope this helps.

    Have you...

Have you downloaded the latest drivers from HP? If not, you can go to HP Support and download the latest drivers and manuals. Just enter LJ1000 or LJ1320 for the drivers that you want. You may also want to get the manuals. They do show how to set up printer sharing for 98 and XP.

Does your LJ1320 have a network port? If so, then it is a LJ1320N. Please let me know.

I have the latest drivers. No network port. I use a peer-to-peer network so it's not necessary.

    Thanks

Also, I have downloaded all the printer sharing docs from the HP website.

I went ahead and deleted the xp printer from the selection of printers on the win98 computer. I have a feeling that the network printer was causing a problem. Just a hunch. I will see if the problem keeps happening and let you know. It doesn't happen all the time, but has happened two times since I returned from vacation this week. And once while I was on vacation. We'll see.

    Thanks again.
