I'm unsure where this will get the most visibility, so posting in multiple forums
Running Windows XP HE, have not installed SP2
Trying to install a network, but can't find the network neighborhood icon. Not on desktop, not in control panel, not in network connections. Have not used TweakUI.

I do not know about XP Home but in my XP Pro it is " Network Connections " in the Control Panel.

Windows 95 and 98 show networked computers in Network Neighborhood. Windows Me, 2000, and XP show shared disks and folders in My Network Places. The My Network Places icon is what you're looking for on Windows XP.

If you are missing this icon on the desktop, right-click the Start button, click Properties, and click the Customize button. Click the Advanced tab and click to place a check next to the "My Network Places" checkbox.

I did all of the above, but My Network Places does not appear on this list.

    Any other suggestions?

What do you mean on the list? Click Start, point to My Network Places, and right-click on and choose Show on Desktop. That should make it appear on the desktop.

OK, I have my start menu set up in Classic windows style. However when I set it in XP style, I do see the box My Network places, but when I put a check in the box I get My Network Places on the start menu, but that still does not have Network Neighborhood in it.

I consider myself an intermediate computer user, been at it for 15 years, always able to solve my own problems, but I've struggled with this long enough. I give up.

Thanks to all who tried to help me.

There is no "Network Neighborhood" in Windows XP. The name was changed to "My Network Places. "
