I had downloaded Microsoft Office Demo to try it out. I started having problems receiving my emails through Outlook Express, so it was recommended that I delete Office from my computer because Outlook was competing with Outlook Express. I did so by way of "add and remove." Since doing so my e-mail still locks up and I now notice that my system restore drags out and won't respond. I had intended to restore back before I downloaded Microsoft Office. If there's anything you could suggest or offer I would greatly appreciate it.
    I'm running XP home edition.

    Freon51319 - Welcome to the Board :)

It is helpful to have a Meaningful Title to your thread (Posting Rules #3) - a very brief summary of the problem - to draw the attention of others. As you are new here I have edited your thread title.

I suggest you run System File Checker - this is the first option in a Repair of IE/OE

Start > Run > type in sfc /scannow - note the space after sfc and have your XP CD handy. SFC will run and exit without any closing dialogue. To see which files, if any have been replaced look in Event Viewer.

    Outlook Express Still Locking Up

I followed your directions, but found nothing about Outlook Express on the event logs. What would be the next step in trying to get this program under control.

Please post details of exactly what happens when OE locks up - I presume you mean that it freezes, but there may be more.

One possible cause is file corruption ....

Create a new folder in OE and drag any messages you wish to keep into it. Then search for *.dbx files - these are the OE message folders. With OE closed delete Inbox.dbx - this will be recreated the next time you start OE. See if this resolves the problem.

Another reason for strange behaviour in OE is very large dbx files - when you make the search above make a note of any folders larger than the odd Mb and post your observations here.
