    Here is my situation...

    OS-2000

Installed utility program as Administrator as required by manufacturer. Its use is intended for a Resticted User. When the Resticted User logs in and launches the program, she gets an error message. Pretty vague I know...

    More details....

The program is an MP3 file converter utility written by CoffeCup Software (named MP3 Rip 'n Burn). I contacted them but they were unable to help.

The Restricted user can access the CDRom just fine (when using Windows Media Player or Windows CD Player). But when she launches the MP3 program, the program cannot recognize a CD in the tray. However when I am logged in as an Administrator, it works just fine. As a test, I changed her status to Admin and when she launched it, it worked fine too. CoffeeCup says it is related to her user settings in 2000 but are unable to tell me what needs to be changed.

I'm hoping someone here can help.

No way to say for sure without knowing their software (and interesting that they don't seem to) but a couple things you can try that might work and if not, won't leave you any worse off.

Uninstall the app. Log on as the user then do the install using runas and your admin credentials but while logged on as the user. Might set things up so they will work.

If not, try adding the user to the permissions list for the main folder for the utility with superuser or admin rights to that one folder.

If no joy with either of those, I'd try for a refund on the utility and finding one that was better written and better supported.
