Is there a way to burn a CD from within a batch file? I'm not sure what to do and I don't want to have to burn my backup images myself (not because I'm lazy, because I'm old school ).

David, I did a little experimenting using Easy Cd Creator 6 running on Windows XP.

I formatted a disc using the Drag-to-Disc utility and successfully transferred files to the CD from within a DOS window with the xcopy command.

So I see no reason why a batch file should not work in those circumstances as long as the disc is set up correctly first.

Whether the same could be done from pure DOS is another matter, at the very least the CD driver -MSCDEXE - would have to be loaded but I am not very good with DOS and didn't have time to try it.

Easy CD is the only utility I have at the moment so haven't been able to try nero, Sonic, etc.

I also tried just running the standard Easy CD creator classic utility from a command prompt with switches to save formatting a CD first, but it just fires up a windows-based session.

    Hope this helps

    Command-line cd backups

I posted the same question on a microsoft forum and got a really rude response about how servers shouldn't be setup with CDRW's as the primary backup device. It's just a file server, a Dell PowerEdge, and I really don't understand that other than to mean that burning CD's on your file servers CDRW is tacky. Maybe it is, kind of disappointing, but I've been through that... ;)

I'll try this, maybe there's some way to setup the CD like you're saying without having to go through windows. I think I'll see if GNU offers anything for this too.

    Thanks!

If you can find a CD burning utility that accepts command line arguements you'd probably be set.
