Ad-Aware plus 5.8 Locking up

I have just downloaded the sig file dated 16/5/02 and since then the program has started locking up during every attempt at a scan usually at different parts of the scan even if i reboot and re-try it seems to lock up. I have re-installed the sig file dated 5/5/02 and the program will complete the scan without locking up could this mean a problem with the latest sig file ?
Anybody else having the same problem ?

As you can see most people actually experience "hanging" rather than "locking ". Maybe you did not wait long enough?

Thanks for your reply Welshjim it made very interesting reading my system definetly locks up i left it for 30min last time but no movement and ctl+alt+del gave adaware as not responding
The only thing i have not tried is to diable the virus checker i will try this and report back

Finished a scan at last

Have finished a scan at last using sig file 16/5/02 it took 45min and used all the resources requiring a reboot afterwards to continue using the pc there appears to be a problem with the new adaware scanning system lets hope they sort it out as the old program was a gem.

 

alboy--If you updated your reffile using RefUpdate from the next to last version 009.05-05-2002, the old reffile should still be on your PC, named reffile.backup. It and the latest reffile should be in your C:\Program Files\Lavasoft Ad-aware folder.
If so, rename the latest reffile.awr to something else (like reffile.awrx) and rename reffile.backup to reffile.awr. You now will be using the next to last reffile for your scans, but at least Ad-Aware won't hang.
