...use Sun Java, and believe it when it says 1.4.2_06 is up to date.

Unfortunately neither method of confirming up-to-date-ness (web page test or from own computer) seems to work very well

    1.4.2_07 fixes the vulnerability (K-OTIK)
    best wishes, HJ

a bit of a double post, but it's a security thing and the other post is tucked away in a thread about something way different.

Due to the nature of the vulnerability, I would say that anyone using the Java Runtime is affected, regardless of which browser is being used. Update!

    Another security treadmill.

For more info on FF and Java, this thread http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=42740

To make my life easier, running two OS's, I completely got rid of Java on one of them, the one running IE only, can't say I miss Java all that much.

On the other installed FF and with Java.

    Regards - Charles

yup. And these are not small downloads for us 56K bods, an hour or so...

does anyone have any thoughts about the relative merits/demerits of 1.4.2 series vs. 1.5 series pls?

there's only one site I really use it for (satellite above-horizon times), were it not for that I'd gladly get rid of it altogether

    best wishes, HJ

PS the check Java version web site is still reporting incorrectly...
