    Hi,

Does anyone know if the POP3 connector in SBS2003 can be configured to connect to an SSL POP3 server. I'm trying to configure it to use a Gmail account but there doesn't seem an option to enable SSL for the POP3 connection.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

I've been looking for a solution to the same problem. It seems that you can't use SSL with email on SBS 2003. I am finding that Exchange is very restrictive in general - I want to set it to check email more often than every 15 minutes, but I can't do that either. Have you gotten anywhere in solving this problem?

No, not yet. I've spent some time looking around and there doesn't seem to be any information on it, so I assume that its just not possible, at least for now.

You may want to try using openssl with stunnel. Using stunnel you can proxy non-SSL clients to an SSL application. OReilly has a book on openssl that explain how to configure this.

Yes, that would do it - I certainly didn't think of that. Unfortunately that's way more set up than I'm willing to do... I assume the premium version of SBS 2003 will allow you to do SSL? I'd rather have my clients pay for the premium version than pay me to set up all that stuff... But certainly a great idea - you can do a lot with proxy servers... Would you set up a proxy server at 127.0.0.1?

In order to use stunnel you would proxy ssl pop3 to a localhost address hosting pop3. Then the pop3 connector would connect to the local host address port 110.
Post ISP's don't get into SSL pop3 yet, but with security increasing it will become very popular.
