Since I have logged back on the internet with Windows XP my computer has been attempting to download the SP2 upgrade. While it is grinding away everything else stops. Is there any way to disable the automatic feature until a more opportune time to let it work four or five hours? Any other solutions are welcome.

Any recommendations for low coast fix it utilities are sought too.

    Hello jersal,

Right click MY Computer > properties > Automatic Updates tab:

Tick one of the options to notify you - or tick disable.

You seem to be new to XP, first place to look for info is the Help and Support applet on the start menu. Searching for "automatic updates" would have led you to the AU tab.

    Regards - Charles

Thanks Charles. Both for the solution and the suggestion. I tried the help idea but didn't post the correct search I guess.
