 I hope this is the right page?
Since updating to SP2 I have a problem with my greeting card software. Every time I want to make a card and I want to choose one that I download at that time from the internet, the whole program just shuts down?? I had no problem before installing SP ". [I am not sure if it is appropriate to mention the software or not?? so have refrained] It is making me mad as I have allowed the access in my ZoneAlarm fire wall.
    Please help sombody out there.
    :D Thanks
    Karles

Seeing that you have ZoneAlarm have you disabled the SP2 Firewall?

    XP Home - SP2

You have confused me even more! Surely I can't run both Firewalls?? As I said I have allowed the software access to the internet in ZoneAlarm so why should the program just close as soon as I get to the item I want to use not even having a chance to save my work in progress??
    Thanks
    Karles

The SP2 Firewall is activated by default in SP2. Is why I was wondering whether or not you turned it off? Otherwise it is running as well & I thought that may cause some conflict.

KARLES - I adjusted your topic title to reflect your problem.

I agree you do need to insure that the XP firewall is not running since you have another.

However, if the program itself crashes/closes, that doesn't really sound like an effect of a firewall.

Mentioning the name of your software is always fine on this forum (well, not for folks who come on and post trying to sell us the software but in connection with a problem). In fact, I think it may help in figuring out what is happening to you.

    XP Home - SP2

    Hi Newt,
Thanks for the injection of my understanding of a firewall [I am learning]
Now as to the software it is " CreateaCard" Platinum 7 by Carlton. I know there are thousands of things on the actual CD but there are times that I would like to take advantage of using the online items. As soon as scoll down to these items and highlight these in the library the whole program just disapears of the sceen and has shut down even without saving [or giving me the oppertunity] the item I was working on!! I sure hope that you are able to understand what I am trying to say
Thanks in advance for any hint's or help.
    Karles

Next time it happens, click on start, on run, key in eventvwr.msc to open your event logs and take a look at both the application and system logs. Look for errors (red symbol) or warnings (yellow) that happened at about that time.

Often they don't make lots of sense to you but may give us a starting place for troubleshooting. Any you find (but please, only one copy of a particular error/warning) you should double-click open then click on the icon below the up/down arrows. That sends a text copy to your clipboard and you can simply paste that into a reply here.

In the mean time you may wish to try this:

    Clean IE temp:

    Delete cookies:

    General and specific xp/creatacard topics
    http://support.broderbund.com/techtipos.asp?osid=13

Most of the xp problems were specific error or named file/driver problem, not something as broad as the program existing by its self. The fix most often suggested was an uninstall reinstall. Two of the above three links I offered were trouble with "online downloading" specifc.

This seems a bit toooo easy a fix, (cookies and ie temp), but sometimes (with fingers crossed) it can be an easy thing.

Just on the off chance that you have an nvidia video/graphics card:(note symptom: program exists to the desktop, solution: disabling the nView Desktop Manager
